Petition on Localism in PlanningCharter for Welsh Red Meat:

• In the first term of a Welsh Conservative Government we would seek to secure a North Wales based beef and lamb abattoir to ensure the long term sustainability of red meat production in North Wales.

• We would call for a voluntary code of practice for supermarkets and shops to dedicate a section of floor space to the support and promotion of Welsh Lamb and Beef - to ensure they get the prominent position in the market they deserve.

• We will work with colleagues from across the UK to reform the meat promotional levy - so that the levy is payable to the country that the animal is born in - rather than slaughtered.

• We would ensure there is a support package in place to aid the retention of suckler cow and calf herds here in Wales, as the basis for the sustainable supply chain of quality premium Welsh Beef.

• We would develop a stand-alone LFA scheme to support those farming in the most challenging areas of Wales.

• In the first term of a Welsh Conservative Government we would seek to increase the percentage of public procurement of Welsh Meat.

• We call on retailers to actively promote Welsh PGI status meat and British Red Tractor meat.

• We call on retailers and processors to work with key stakeholders to develop risk management options for farmers.

• We believe in extending the use of the voluntary code on clear country of origin labelling for processed food to the food service sector.

• We call on processors to work on long term prices to allow producers to plan and ensure the long term sustainability of our meat industry.Glyn Davies MP and the Farmers' Union of Wales recently jointly organised Montgomeryshire Day in Parliament.
