About Glyn Davies

Born in February 1944, Glyn was educated at Castle Caereinion Primary School and Llanfair Caereinion High School, where he had to leave at 16, because of his fathers serious illness. He met his wife, Bobbie in 1966, and they have raised 4 children, who have each gone on to fulfill their chosen careers.

Glyn’s career in Politics began in 1980 when he found his local District Council. he was Chairman of Montgomeryshire District Council from 1985 – 1989, having previously served as Chair of the Planning Committee and Chair of the Finance Committee. he has also been Chair of the Development Board for Rural Wales, a NDPB, charged with promoting economical and social development in Rural Wales.

He contested Montgomeryshire for the Conservatives at the 1997 general Election, and has served as a member of the Development Agency and Wales Tourist Board. He even found time, at the age of 50, to attend Aberystwyth University where he broadened his knowledge of Politics. he gained a Diploma in International Law and Politics.

Between 1999 and 2007, Glyn was the Conservative Assembly Member for the Mid and West Wales region, which covers the areas of Powys, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, Camarthenshire and Gwynedd.

Treuliodd ei fywyd gweithio cynnar yn rhedeg y fferm deuluol ger Castell Caereinion lle cafodd ei eni, sef busnes y mae ganddo fudd ynddo o hyd. Mae bellach yn byw yn Fferm Cil, Aberriw.

Ganed Glyn ym mis Chwefror 1944, a chafodd ei addysg yn Ysgol Gynradd Castell Caereinion ac Ysgol Uwchradd Llanfair Caereinion, ond bu’n rhaid iddo adael yr ysgol pan roedd yn 16 oed gan fod ei dad yn ddifrifol wael. Cyfarfu â’i wraig, Bobbie ym 1966, ac maen nhw wedi magu 4 o blant sydd oll wedi mynd ymlaen i ddilyn eu dewis yrfa.

Dechreuodd gyrfa Glyn ym myd Gwleidyddiaeth ym 1980 pan ddaeth ar draws ei Gyngor Dosbarth lleol. Roedd yn Gadeirydd Cyngor Dosbarth Sir Drefaldwyn rhwng 1985 a 1989, ac yntau wedi bod yn Gadeirydd y Pwyllgor Cynllunio ac yn Gadeirydd y Pwyllgor Cyllid cyn hynny. Bu hefyd yn Gadeirydd Bwrdd Datblygu Cymru Wledig, sef corff cyhoeddus anadrannol, â chylch gorchwyl i hybu datblygiad economaidd a chymdeithasol Cymru Wledig.

Rhoddodd gynnig ar ennill sedd Sir Drefaldwyn ar ran y Ceidwadwyr yn Etholiad cyffredinol 1997, ac mae wedi bod yn aelod o’r Awdurdod Datblygu a Bwrdd Croeso Cymru. Rywsut, pan roedd yn 50 oed, daeth o hyd i’r amser i fynd i Brifysgol Aberystwyth lle ehangodd ei wybodaeth am Wleidyddiaeth. Enillodd Ddiploma yn y Gyfraith Ryngwladol a Gwleidyddiaeth.

Rhwng 1999 a 2007, Glyn oedd Aelod y Cynulliad dros ranbarth Canolbarth a Gorllewin Cymru, sy’n cwmpasu ardaloedd Powys, Sir Benfro, Ceredigion, Sir Gaerfyrddin a Gwynedd.
